BBHS and Bellport Camp Explore

Camp Explore

The children at the Bellport-Brookhaven Historical Society’s “Bellport Camp Explore” recently enjoyed two days at the BBHS Campus. On August 2nd, they listened to a lecture by Tom Binnington and toured the John Chester Memorial Boathouse, that showcases the fully restored Gil Smith catboat, Jealousy, and the fully rigged scooter, Three-In-One. At the end of the tour, they were able to paint their own sailboat to take home.

On August 8th, they toured the Shaw Blacksmith shop and were treated to a demonstration by Joe Lech. They viewed an old Bellport doctor’s cart that was made with many parts handcrafted by a blacksmith. Afterwards, they were able to trace and name some of the old handcrafted tools featured in the shop.
