Join the Bellport-Brookhaven Historical Society on Friday, August 25th for their latest presentation in their “Authors and Artists” series. Mac Griswold, acclaimed cultural landscape historian, will lead a discussion on her popular book, The Manor: Three Centuries at a Slave Plantation on Long Island. A knowledge of the land, a raw nerve about slavery, a sense of wonder for history, and a fascination with old gardens and landscapes as a reflection of their times and culture all turn Griswold into a landscape historian who is now well known for her numerous books. Hear about the pickled-in-time plantation founded in the 17th century and occupied until 2006 by direct descendants of the founding family, in which Griswold describes life on the only intact slave plantation north of the Mason Dixon line.
Includes a lively wine and cheese reception. The presentation will be held at 12 Bell Street in Bellport.
